5 Tips to Stick to Your New Year's Resolutions
Happy New Year! This is the year. This year you are going to achieve those goals, and be a better version of you, no matter what that means for you! It’s not going to be easy, but it’s 2019. You got this! We are right there with you trying to achieve our own personal goals and goals for Start Right! Below are tips that help us and may help you too:
1. Start small
It’s too easy to get caught up in the excitement of the New Year and add too much to your plate. Change doesn’t come overnight, and the more you try to change, the harder it is to stick with it. It takes 21 days to form a habit. Take your time and count everyday as a victory.
2. Don’t put yourself down
It is okay if you slip up on your diet, miss a workout, sleep-in, or forget to pick up your book before bed. Changing your behavior is hard. Instead of being down for breaking your resolution, try to be positive and proud when you stick to your resolution. Make everyday a clean slate to stick to your resolutions.
3. Share your Resolutions with Others
In our office, we’ve all shared with each other what our goals are for 2019. In this way, we can help each other stay accountable. For this to be effective, it has to be a positive support network. It doesn’t work if you and your partner put each other down for not following through with a resolution. You have to support each other, especially when one of you slips.
4. Focus on the positive
Too many New Year’s Resolutions focus on negative aspects of one’s life - i.e. they feel unfit, overweight, unproductive, unhealthy. And while these can be good goals for 2019, also try to add a goal that doesn’t focus on you but on others. For example, try to give someone a compliment everyday or start keeping a gratefulness journal.
5. Don’t Make Any
Always an option. You do you, who are we to judge.
